Sentence #8 - REVEALED
How did you do?
We have to hurry or we’re not going to make it on time!
These are some things that might have tripped you up:
The reduced sounds in have to, which sounds more like ‘av ta. Have to can be really hard to hear. In some accents, the initial h isn’t pronounced at all. In others, the v sounds more like an f and is then connected to the reduced to, to sound like hafta.
The word hurry, which is often a new word for my students
The reduced sounds of or we’re, which sounds like erweer
The reduction + connection in going to, which sounds like gonna
The connection between make it, which makes it sound like one word maekit
The expression in time, which learners may confuse with on time.
