Sentence #29 - REVEALED
How did you do?
On Monday, I asked you for the whole first verse from this song.
Did you hear:
A. Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, All is bright
Round John Virgin, mother and child
or
B. Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, All is bright
Round yon virgin, mother and child?
If you realized that B. Round yon virgin probably makes more sense, you’re in good company.
What probably trips many people up is that yon comes from an outdated form of English, which, if you’re not familiar with it, your brain tries to make sense of what you’re hearing and you get the name John Virgin.
Were you singing along to the correct lyrics? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
