Sentence #15 - REVEALED
How did you do?
It was a relaxing weekend - we went out to a cafe, then we went to a movie. It was great!
These are some things that might have tripped you up:
The reductions and connections in It was a, which sounds like ‘twasah. These words are all function (grammar) words and are not usually pronounced clearly.
The dropped t + connections in went out to, which sounds like wenouto. I dropped the t in went (which is common after an n) but some people might move the t sound instead to sound more like wen-tout ta. Either way, it probably sounds different than you expected.
The word cafe, which in English means a place where you can get coffee and a pastry and sit for a bit. But it can be a kind of false friend/false cognate for Spanish speakers who are thinking about the drink.
The low, flat pronunciation of then we went to a, which is said quickly without any changes in intonation. Note that here I do pronounce the t in went, because it’s followed by another t sound in to and I connect the two words together: wento
