How did you do?
All the average person knew about Hamilton was that he was on the $10 bill and he’d been shot by a guy named Aaron Burr and he had become the least-known of the founders.
These are the things that might have tripped you up:
The names - Hamilton (although I gave you that one as a hint) and Aaron Burr. Names are hard to hear, particularly if they are from cultures that you’re not familiar with.
The connection in knew about, which makes it sound like neu - wa- bout.
The reduced sounds in was that he was on the - all of these are ‘unimportant’ function words, so they’re all said low and quickly, without clear vowel sounds.
The past perfect grammar, especially the passive form of he’d been shot by. The contraction (he’d) especially makes it hard to hear.
The connection between named Aaron, which sounds like naym darron (and Darren, unfortunately, is also an English name!) Like I said, names are hard.
The phrase least-known, which I suspect is less well-known than, well, well-known.
